The Best Morning Skincare Routine
Everyone’s got their favourite rituals when they wake up and skincare is an important part of that (after coffee, of course).
So, when it comes to your morning skincare routine, are you all about a super quick micellar water cleanse or do you like to take your time with a full-on face wash?
Whatever way you like to start the day, we’ve put together the skincare steps that are worth following and some handy tips to get you and your skin off to the best possible start. Ready? Let’s glow...
What is good for skin in the morning?
Before you even get started on your morning skincare, think about fuelling your body and calming your mind.
Starting your day hydrated will give your body, mind and skin what it needs to be at its very best.
Some additions to your morning smoothie can be your skin’s best friend. Reach for fruits like blueberries that are packed with Vitamin K and Vitamin C, known for their Antioxidant benefits. Or Mangoes, packed with skin-loving Beta-Carotene.
Adding a splash of water (or a few blocks of ice) to your smoothies is a good way to up your daily intake of H2O as well.
The other thing to think about before you start your skincare is stress. People often underestimate how much impact it can have on not only their wellbeing, but their skin, too. It can cause breakouts, cause skin conditions to flare up and even accelerate signs of ageing like fine lines.
There’s nothing worse than rushing around when you wake up to raise those anxiety levels. As tempting as it is to hit snooze a few more times, try to get up on time or a little bit earlier if you can, giving yourself plenty of time to get ready.
That should hopefully give you a few more minutes for yourself in the mornings to relax, especially if you know it’s going to be a busy one! Trust us, it’ll help you feel a little calmer throughout the day.
Even slowing down and taking some breaths while doing your skincare routine can be a great way to incorporate a little bit of much-needed mindfulness. You can read up on some signs of stressed skin to look out for here

What should my skincare routine be in the morning?
The best morning skincare routine is one that works for your skin type, as well as your lifestyle.
In general, it’s good to follow a few morning skin care routine steps to prep for the day ahead, but the products you choose to use are totally up to what you enjoy and what helps you get the best out of your skin.
Not sure what your skin type is? You can work out yours by reading our guide here.
Our easy morning skincare routine for all skin types
Time is of the essence in the mornings, right? Totally agree, we’re not expecting you to double cleanse and follow up with a 11-step hydration routine. So, you can save your makeup remover, face mask and more for tonight.
Here’s the super easy morning skin care routine steps we follow every day.
1. Quickly cleanse
Should you wash your face in the morning? It’s up for debate. Some people like to skip it, especially if they have super dry skin.
For us here at Simple® skincare, we think that it’s worth doing a quick refresh.
Cleansing first thing wakes up sleepy skin, removes oil, dead skin cells, impurities from pores, and gives you a balanced base ready for the next part of your morning cleansing routine.
Not sure which one to go for? It’s going to depend on your skin type but it’s totally up to what you (and your skin) like using.
If you like something that lathers up, pick a foaming wash like our NEW Active Skin Barrier Care Replenishing Cream Cleanser. It’s enriched with 11% Ceramide Boosters and Hyaluronic Acid for soft, supple skin.
If you prefer a quick cotton pad cleanse, then our Kind to Skin™ Micellar Cleansing Water means no need to rinse - it’s our go-to for those days when we’re in a bit of a rush.
Remember, the right cleanser for you will make your skin feel nice and fresh, without any tightness or irritation.
If you have oily skin in particular, then it’s important to find a cleanser that’s effective but doesn’t strip your skin, as this can cause your skin to overproduce sebum and look shinier throughout the day.
Whatever suits your morning cleansing routine best, our tip is to cleanse before you hit the shower because water that’s too hot can strip skin of that much-needed moisture.

2. Use a two-second toner
It’s a bit of a myth that toners don’t do much because they’re actually full of beauty benefits.
They instantly make you feel more awake, so they’re one of the skincare products we reach for first thing. Plus, they help rebalance the skin’s pH level and prep for the next steps in your routine, meaning your serum and moisturiser sink in properly.
Our bestselling Kind to Skin™ Soothing Facial Toner is enriched with ingredients like Chamomile, known to soothe the skin.
3. Smooth on a serum
Save time and still get those beauty benefits by adding a few drops of Booster Serum to your moisturiser. It’s a great way to target specific skin needs and hydrate at the same time.
Not sure which one to go for? Choose based on your skin goals:
The best serum for glowing skin
A Vitamin C serum is the perfect choice for tackling dull skin. Along with boosting overall radiance, Vitamin C can also help you with:
- Brightening dark spots
- Boosting overall skin radiance
- Reducing redness
- Making skin feel firmer
- Promoting collagen production
- Balancing an uneven skin tone
- Smoothing the appearance of fine lines
- Helping prevent moisture loss, keeping the skin more hydrated
- Supporting the skin's natural defence mechanisms
Our 10% Vitamin C serum contains a skin-kind derivative of Vitamin C that won't be harsh on dry skin (or sensitive skin).
The best serum for dry skin
Hydrating face serums blended with ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid are ideal for replenishing dry skin. This is because Hyaluronic Acid has the remarkable ability to retain up to 1,000 times its weight in moisture.
Along with nourishing powerhouse Hyaluronic Acid, our 3% Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin B5 Booster Serum also contains skin-conditioning Vitamin B5 and PENTAVITIN™ to intensely hydrate, soften and smooth.
Whilst it’s perfect for sensitive skin, all skin types can benefit from its soothing and sebum-regulating properties.

The best serum for blemish-prone skin
Our 10% Vitamin B5 Niacinamide Booster Serum is formulated to give you real results, while still being ultra-gentle on skin.
Niacinamide serums are great for all skin types because they deliver many different skin benefits with a low risk of causing reactions.
For blemish-prone skin, some of these include:
- Supporting your skin barrier
- Promoting clearer-looking skin
- Minimising enlarged pores
- Reducing the appearance of dark spots
- Regulating oil production
- Helping to protect against environmental aggressors
- Evening out skin texture
4. Hydrate and protect
Finally, the last step in your morning skincare routine order is an amazing moisturiser.
When picking a moisturiser for your morning face routine, try to choose one with SPF. Even if it’s not sunny outside, a moisturiser like our Protect ‘N’ Glow™ Triple Protect Moisturiser SPF 30, will help protect your skin against invisible, damaging UV rays - you can skip the SPF in your night cream, though.
For moisturisers to work their best, apply them within a few minutes of stepping out of the shower. This way, your skin draws in moisture from the air around you and retains it in your skin.
To brighten and nourish your delicate under eyes, you can apply a little eye cream. Remember, if the formula is richer than your face cream to apply it after so that it doesn’t affect how your moisturiser absorbs.
Moisturising as part of your morning skincare routine not only replenishes your skin’s hydration levels but perfectly primes your face for makeup if you’re going to wear any. It instantly creates a smooth, radiant canvas.
What about my evening skincare routine?
